Session: Risk and Controls 101

During this session, we will explore foundational risk and internal control concepts. The presentation will include a sample used to communicate with business partners to facilitate process audits and control self-assessments. We will also explore how a risk and control methodology can be used to manage an internal audit engagement.

Speaker: Richard Hudon, CIA, CISA, CCSA, CGEIT, CRISC, CRMA

Rick works at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina focusing on risk and internal controls. With more than 20 years of audit and risk management experience, Rick has held leadership positions including VP & IT Audit Manager, Internal Audit Manager, Information Security Officer and has also served tours of duties as a VP of Telecommunications and as a Regional Accounting Supervisor. Rick is a graduate of Southern New Hampshire University where he earned his BS degree in Business Studies / Information Technology. Rick has earned a number of professional certifications including Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Internal Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and Certified in Control Self-Assessment (CCSA). Outside of the office, Rick has served the local ISACA chapter in leadership roles in the past including 5 terms as President, 1 term as First Vice-President, 2 terms as Past-President, and as a prior webmaster. He has completed the Leadership Granville program and served on the Granville County Schools Parent Advisory Council, the Granville County Greenway Advisory Council and as a mentor in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Triangle. Rick is a volunteer with the American Red Cross and serves on the Butner Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee. Rick recently played soccer for the first time in the fall of 2010, and is returning to play in a spring league learning one is never too old to try something new. Most importantly, Rick has been married for 26 years and is the proud father of twin daughters.
