Topic:  Yesterday’s Trusted Web Sites are Today’s Malicious Servers

In the dawn of the past decade, the Microsoft operating system was a hacker’s dream. It was universally-used software and it was ripe with bugs ready to be exploited to hijack users’ PCs or launch denial of service attacks.

But 10 years later, Microsoft has slowly cleaned up its security flaws leaving cyber criminals to target another vendor whose products are nearly as ubiquitous and whose never-ending vulnerabilities are just being discovered. That vendor is Adobe.

Due to the current trend of converting trusted web sites into malicious servers (i.e. Operation Aurora), this session will focus on the browsers and client-side applications that can be invoked by browsers as the new “danger zone” and the steps IT administrators must take to block a Google-like attack and the loss of intellectual property or customer data.

Speaker: Nik Patronas , Sr Security Engineer

Nik is responsible for educating prospects, customers and partners on critical IT management issues including system discovery, patch and configuration management, and anti-virus + anti-spy-ware defenses.  Nik also trains Shavlik’s customers on security and compliance best practices for physical and virtual machines. Nik regularly speaks at events and conferences, where he focuses on increasing awareness of today’s evolving security issues and approaching these challenges with innovative solutions that are centered on simplicity, accuracy, flexibility and scalability.
